Secondly, I bought the large bag for school. your back will thank you. Third thing. My main concern was fitting all books and laptop without it looking too bulky. since I’m counting, bag is well made, zippers are smooth, stitches seem fine (I’ll come back to note if it falls apart), materials used in bag appears to be of quality, carrying it in all 3 ways were comfortable. I was able to fit a 1 inch binder, 13in MacBook, 1000 page paper cover text book, spiral notebook, planner, pencil bag, and logical items found in a purse (wallet, sunglasses case, Tylenol, PooPourri, etc, ). So the bag came smelling a little less like the “new bag smell” that some people don’t like and my passport now has an added protection from bends and spills. I wouldn’t be able to put any more books in there but I honestly wouldn’t want to. If you need something larger, invest in a rolling backpack.
I go prepared for anything, and this bag feels like a day pack almost. Probably used it about 30 days so far on day hikes, and no trouble. Very light, but so far very durable. No rips, breaks, etc. The full zip close side compartments can handle Nalgene bottles. The mesh bottom side pockets that are open can handle 16 oz water bottles, but Nalgene bottles are not secure, and can fall out. Just right for me for long day hikes in Colorado.
