(even on my 11 mile hike. ) The strap at the waist is great because it adjusts on both sides so you can get the buckle where you want it. I have not swam in these yet, but the fit was perfect and the seller shipped FAST. They came in less than a week. I wear a 34 to 36 in pants and these fit perfectly. Not too loose or too tight. Legs ride a little higher than the photo, but I am tall and short waisted. The waist is low enough that the band does not roll down (if you have a bit of a belly).
