It's great at casting frogs and other top water lures but not too fast you can't just slow yourself down to use as on finess type rigs as well. With the money I saved on this reel I'm using to buy a nice carbon fiber handle for it to dress it up a little more and cut a tiny bit of wright off too because like I said I wanted a nice light weight package and this does it all day long. I bought this reel to use on a Daiwa 6'6"" 2 piece light weight portable rod Medium action withna fast tip and it had been great. It is a great all around use reel and a great bang for the buck purchase. I have an Abu Garcia BlackMax3 and this reel for about the same amount of money is far smoother and better looking. The braking system is a little tricky but if you go on YouTube there's a few videos teaching you how to set it up to avoid backslashing. I'm using this as a good all around portable rod for creek and river bank fishing where I have to hike in where having a one piece pole is too cumbersome.
